Warnings About Antivirus Software

May 8, 2013/0 Comments/in Computer Security /by admin

Antivirus software is a staple of the computer age.

The fact is, any computer without some form of virus protection is endangering itself, this also stands true for anyone thinking they are safe on Mac Computers.

Warnings About Antivirus Software

What’s worse is that computers that don’t have adequate antivirus software are endangering all other computers as well.

This is because viruses spread from computer to computer quite easily due to the internet and other methods of file sharing.

Still, while antivirus software is needed there are cautions about them that should be heeded.

Antivirus software is a competitive business:

This is important software and so the fact that it gets pushed on consumers so much isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The problem is that the brands that push the most are generally ones that cost the most and aren’t necessarily the most effective.

There are all kinds of options for people and all kinds of places to checkout reviews. Do your research before laying out more money than you have to.

Consumers are often encouraged to get more than they need:

The more popular antivirus applications come in more than one grade. That means that there are basic versions and more advanced versions, and each offers something different. For those who don’t really understand the problems that they may face with a computer it can be hard to decide. There is no right or wrong here and so it’s important to find a neutral party who can advise you properly on what options you actually need:

One might not be updated as often as the next:

The world of computer viruses is always changing. Every day new viruses hit the world attacking in their own way, and some are designed to do real damage to a computer or commit troubling crimes against consumers. Because of this antivirus applications are always being updated. Some allow for updates to happen daily while others won’t check for updates until the end of a week or even the end of a month.

Auto renewals can get you:

The fact is, you need to keep your antivirus software up to date. The other fact is that they pretty much all work on a subscription basis. When you buy the software one year, you are essentially buying protection for that year. When the year is done you still get the benefits of the software’s protection but you don’t get the benefits of regular updates to the software. That means you need to buy new subscriptions yearly. The warning? Some distributors subtly set you up for auto renewals.

They aren’t perfect:

In truth, they are far from perfect. The good news is most people aren’t being exposed to all of the thousands or millions of threats that are out there. The other good news is that things like firewalls keep a lot of viruses from even touching down. The bad news is that once viruses get into your computer, the average antivirus application will only be able to detect 30-40 percent of them.

They slow you down:

This is certainly no reason to avoid getting it, but it’s definitely a reason to shop around. Antivirus software in most cases will slow down your computer. Even when it’s not doing full scans, it’s operating in the background checking up on you. When you shop around, keep in mind that you want one that will slow your computer down the least. The best we have found and with the best protection for Home Computers, Business and Mobile devices is Bullguard Internet Security.
