How to Protect Yourself Against Malicious Adware

August 13, 2011/0 Comments/in Adware /by admin

Have you ever downloaded something to your computer thinking you were getting a great free software application, only to wind up with something that’s intrusive, bothersome and impossible to get rid of?

How To Stay Protected From Malicious Adware

Suddenly, whenever you turn on your computer you are bombarded with advertisements. You try to erase the software that’s causing the problem but you just can’t figure out how to do it?

What’s happened is that you stumbled upon unwanted adware. It’s the kind of Adware that is best classified as Malware, a malicious software application that can be harmful to you and your computer.

It’s an all too common occurrence in the internet age and it’s one that people have been having a lot of trouble fighting against.

The problem is that there really is no sure-fire way to stop it, but there are a lot of ways to help keep it at bay.

When Downloading Anything Online Make Sure You Know That It’s A Trusted Site

When you download something off the internet it’s important that you do so from a trusted source. Always be on the lookout for scams and don’t just blindly trust that it will be okay because a lot of adware is delivered to your computer through seemingly trustworthy ways.

Be on the lookout for software pitches that seem overeager to get you to download them right away. Also, look for reviews of both the application and the source you are getting it from.

When in doubt, just move on.

Always Make Sure You Have Suitable Internet Security Installed

Adware isn’t necessarily a part of a virus but it can be delivered to your computer that way. For that reason, ensuring your antivirus software is kept up to date is important, and it’s best to keep it running at all times. Also, a lot of antivirus software comes with built-in adware protection.

The kinds that don’t will at least offer that as an upgrade in almost every case. Also, because a lot of Adware includes spyware, having protection against that is a must as well.

Know What Websites You Are Visiting and Whether They Are Trusted

A lot of websites are designed specifically to lure you to them and then to get you to download something that results in adware being installed on your computer. The best thing to do is never to visit a website you don’t trust, and especially don’t click on any links or downloads if you get to that site by accident.

When in doubt, run a deep scan of your computer upon closing down one of those sites after visiting it.

Always Be Aware Of The Terms Of Use Of Any Program You Download

Before you install software make sure you know what you’re getting. Read the end-user license agreement and see if it mentions anything about Adware. If it does, find out where that adware is coming from and see if that company is reputable. Also, it wouldn’t hurt at all to run a scan of the executable file before installing it.

Your antivirus software should be able to do this quite easily. Or if you have a problematic adware infection use Malware Bytes.
