Common Windows PC Problems And How To Resolve Them

Contrary to popular belief, common Windows PC problems, such as the system error 5 can be resolved by users on their own – without the help of a computer expert. To prove our point, we have listed some steps that you may perform to resolve common Windows PC errors:

Update Your Software To Avoid Common Windows PC Problems

Common Windows PC ProblemsOne of the most common causes of application errors is outdated software files. Install the latest software updates from your software manufacturer’s website and see if it fixes the error.

If the problem persists after you have updated your software then uninstall and reinstall the software. A lot of times, application errors occur due to missing or damaged application files.

This issue is usually resolved when you reinstall the software that is reporting the error.

Update Windows And Driver Files

Next, install the latest Windows updates and driver updates. To install the new Windows updates, use the inbuilt Automatic Update feature.

To install driver updates, either use a reliable driver update tool or manually install the new available updates from the driver manufacturer’s website.

Both of these options can help fix many common Windows PC problems.

Run A Malware Scan

Malware programs, such as viruses, worms, trojans and other variants not only alter or delete application files, but also corrupt the Master Boot Record (MBR) and cause errors, such as kernel stack inpage error. If the steps 1 and 2 failed to resolve the issue, run a malware scan on your entire computer using a reliable antimalware tool and see if it fixes the issue.

Perform A System Restore

Restore Windows to a time before the application error started appearing and check if the error recurs or not.

To perform System Restore in Windows 7, perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start, type System Restore in the Start Search box, and press the Enter key.
  2. Select either Recommended Restore or Choose a different restore point option.
  3. Click the Next button.

Note: In case you select Choose a different restore point then in the next screen select the desired restore point and click the Next button.

  1. Click the Finish button.

Run The System File Checker (SFC) Command

SFC is a useful built-in utility that allows you to fix errors being caused due to missing or corrupt core Windows files.

To run the SFC command, perform the steps illustrated below:

Note: To run the SFC command, you need to be logged in with administrative rights and also keep the original Windows installation CD near you.

  1. Click Start and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type sfc and press Enter.

Perform A Registry Scan

If the error still persists, the most likely cause is a corrupt Windows registry. Issues in the registry often lead to recurring errors, such as the werfault.exe error. To fix the matter, clean your Windows registry using a professional Windows registry maintenance tool.

Check For A Hotfix On Microsoft’s Website That Can Fix Common Windows PC Problems

Microsoft periodically releases hotfixes for known Windows errors. Search for the error that you are getting on the Microsoft website and see if a hotfix is available.

If yes, then install the hotfix to rectify the issue. A word of caution before installing the hotfix, ensure that the hotfix applies to your system configuration.
