Protect Your Family With These Internet Safety Tips

May 3, 2012/0 Comments/in Internet Safety /by admin

You can find just about everything in the internet these days including viruses and scams, make sure your internet safety is a priority.

If your child has to have a computer for his or her homework assignments, or if you’re thinking about purchasing a new PC for your home to start a business, these internet safety tips will help to keep your software and family protected.

Internet Safety Starts With Your ISP

When you’re selecting the internet service provider that you want, you should make sure that there are protected features that come with the service. Such as anti-spam capabilities for your email account and also antivirus scanning at the ISP level.

That means that all information coming to you via email has already been scanned making the internet just that little bit safer for you or your children to use.

Ask about antivirus software, and get all the information you can about pop-up blockers and ways to prevent spam as well.

This way, you will reduce your risk of accidentally opening up dangerous emails and infecting your computer with hazardous software that you may not be able to get rid of.

Internet Safety Is About Knowing Which Are The Trusted Sites

You can also bookmark the sites that you are going to be using often in order to keep your computer safe. When familiar sites are already bookmarked, you won’t have to search all over the internet to get the information you need.

One aspect we like about AVG Internet Security is that you are given the option to have malicious sites listed in any searches you do online. This helps you steer clear of any sites that may present you with a problem.

The longer you are online, the greater your chances are of having your computer infected with spam or viruses.

When you are always online, and going to different sites over an extended period of time, it is easier for hackers to gain access to your personal information.

You can also bookmark the sites that your children visit often, so that it will be harder for internet predators to get in touch with your teen or adolescent.

Internet Safety Is About Protecting Your Online Transactions

Internet safety tips should also include protecting your bills and banking accounts. When you learn internet methods for paying bills and keeping up with your account activity, you will be able to monitor how much money is coming out of your account online.

However, if you see that more money is coming out of your account that you have not authorized, you’ll need to follow internet safety tips like strengthening the antivirus protection on your computer that you have so that your money will be kept safe from prying eyes.

It is also a good idea to completely unplug your computer at night; this way, your internet connection will not be active while you sleep, and it will be next to impossible for identity thieves to remove any more funds from your account.

Here Are Some Internet Safety Tips To Remember…

Internet Safety For Kids Starts With You The Parent

First, you shouldn’t buy a personal computer that will go in your child’s room until you have explained the proper way to use the internet.

If hackers have access to your internet connection, they will be able to access all of your child’s and your information, so your teen or adolescent will need to learn internet protection methods that will keep your family safe.

And, even elementary school children are visiting the internet these days to go to sites that will allow them to play educational games with their favorite Disney or Nickelodeon characters.

But your little one could still access sites that will open them up to being pursued by internet predators, so your supervision is essential. So, keep the computer in the den or family room so that you can monitor all activity.

Internet safety for kids can also be achieved by sharing an email account with your son or daughter. This way, you will both have the password to the account, and you can monitor the messages that your child is receiving.

Having access to the account will not only let you know if your child is planning on doing something dangerous with friends, but you’ll be able to get rid of spam and hazardous emails that could infect your computer with a virus.

Blocking Access To Services Is Another Part Of Internet Safety For Kids

You can also contact your internet service provider in order to enhance the security features of your internet service. Internet safety for kids can be achieved if they don’t have access to certain sites, so restricting your child’s ability to log onto sites that contain adult content will keep adults from pursuing your children.

A number of internet predators have gone after young children after the child has accessed a site a number of times, and making sure that you can stop your child from giving out information or maintaining conversations with people who may be dangerous.

Blocking chat rooms and forums from your child will also help to keep your kids safe while they’re surfing the internet.

Another way for you to manage the whole process is to bookmark the sites that your child visits often so that they can access the sites without having to search all over the internet for them. This eliminates the chance that your child may stumble across something online that simply is not suitable for them to be viewing.

Your web browser also has some capabilities when blocking sites such as adult content so make sure you become familiar with your browsers options and use them in the fight for internet safety for kids.

Always make sure you have a suitable anti-virus and spyware detection application installed on your computer, this will eliminate any threats long before your child ever sees them.

We would really like to hear your thoughts and suggestions about you do to ensure the internet safety of your kids. please post your comments below.

Child Safety Online What You Need To Know

April 7, 2012/0 Comments/in Child Safety Online, Internet Safety /by admin

Child Safety Online is about questioning information and supervision, we all know that the Internet is loaded with data, nearly all of it is good and accurate, but as with everything some of it is utter garbage.

Since the world wide web is also progressively getting loaded with untrustworthy information, it is time you get involved with your children’s safety on the internet.

Child Safety Online

Child Safety OnlineThese resources are crucial for young people researching information for their homework, but the internet can be a risky place for youngsters especially with many predators online and using adware and spyware to track your child’s online activities.

You know what I am talking about you have heard and read it in the news many times so its time for you as a parent to act.

What Is The Biggest Danger To Child Safety Online

The biggest danger for youngsters surfing the Internet is that they may by chance, come across material unsuitable for them.

Even when the child mistakenly types an improper word into the search engine, he can land in a page which contains sexually explicit or adult material and if your child interacts with that website there could also start receiving email spam of an undesirable nature.

People are always talking about child internet safety issues and you could start immediately to offer security to your child as he scans the net.

Child Safety Online Starts With The Parents

Parents are the first people who must offer the necessary protection when it comes to child safety online and for this you should always keep a vigil on the children as they spend time on the computer especially if they are doing this unsupervised.

Firstly ensure that you sanction their usage of the web, which is doing research for homework or keeping in touch with friends not surfing youtube or chatting on chat programs.

In case you find that your children is talking to someone on-line, ask him to reveal his identity, and if he or she is a stranger, then you need to limit their Internet usage.

Child Safety Online Is About Being Informed

Many Internet web browsers come with a system of paternal blocks for several websites so in case you want to prevent your youngsters from visiting any site, clamp a paternal block on such websites so that they can never view these Internet sites just go to the menu bar in your browser click on tools and then options to see what options you have available.

If your child is persisting with using the computer without your consent you can then password protect the whole system so that they can not log on to the internet at all. There are several types of on-line tools which can help you keep your children from visiting adult and unsuitable websites.

There are even programs available which would enable you to supervise all the online activities which your kid is doing. This way, you will be sure that they are doing precisely what they say they are doing while using the world wide web.

There are also children world wide web safety laws which have been published with the safety of the children in mind. In case some one tries to steal information from your child which is his own personal information, this offender (Predator) can get in to legal entanglements with the government.

Ask your children to be cautious about revealing any personal information or details to anyone online, even when the individual is known to the child, simply because accounts can be hacked so you really don’t know who you are talking with.

Understanding Whats Available To You For Child Safety Online

One of the best options when we talk about child safety online is to get familiar with the accompanying computer tools which are sold with your PC and this way you should be able to block a lot of unsavory information and images from your children as they use the computer.

As an example you can go to the Google homepage and in the preferences tab beside the search box you can select to stop adult content.

Google Safe Search

You will also want to learn about software programs specifically designed to block offensive Internet sites such as AVG internet Security. There are some programs and websites which the child can get access to and will frequently use and you need to have a full understanding about them, like social networking web sites, email and chat via the internet.

There are several precautionary steps in the house which could also be taken by you so that your child remains safe online, such as where you place the computer, a good place is always in a common area so you can see the screen, advising the kids against joining any chat rooms and constantly advising your youngsters about web safety online.

If you keep the dialog open, you will find that your children will be more likely to listen to you and take your advice when it comes to their safety on the internet.

If you are not computer savvy then you could break the ice with your child by getting them to teach you how to use the computer and in doing so you will get to see a lot of the sites and information your child is viewing online.

When you think about it the best way to ensure child safety online is for your to participate in your child’s internet activities.

Why You Should Take Action To Eliminate Adware

August 15, 2011/0 Comments/in Adware, Internet Safety /by admin

Adware is one of the curses of the internet age.

It tends to creep up on people and bury itself within their computers, constantly bombarding them with advertisements for things that they generally don’t want.

Often the ads are just completely inappropriate as well. The only good news about adware in recent years is that technology is starting to catch up with it, making it easier to keep it at bay.

Still, adware is all over the place and is a constant threat. It’s got to the point that whenever some people see ads on their computer they get nervous.

Adware Can Infect Your Computer Without Your Consent

It can get to your computer through sneaky means. People can go online and download things that they feel are safe only to find out that they’ve accidentally installed something that’s designed to do nothing more than harass them with ads whenever they turn on their computer.

This is not only wrong and annoying, but it makes it so that no one can really feel at ease about browsing the net anymore because everything has to be questioned.

Some Adware Applications Will Also Spy On Your Internet Activities

Adware works best when the ads can be targeted at individual users. In order to target the ads best the software tracks what a computer user does when on the internet.

By knowing the web browsing habits and other such things, the most appropriate ads for the user can be delivered.

In theory that’s great except for two points: the first is that the user may not want the ads in the first place and the second is that the user is almost always unaware that such spying is taking place.

Adware Can Also Display Offensive Material

They say that the internet was built on pornography, and a lot of people will tell you that that’s true. By now there are so many websites offering pornography and sex related products and services that no one could ever make an accurate count. That means it’s an incredibly lucrative yet competitive industry.

If Anything you need to consider your Child’s Safety Online.

The result is that makers of adware often try to get a piece of that pie by delivering those ads to your computer. Suddenly computer users find themselves being bombarded by unwanted ads that they can’t get rid of that are full of offensive imagery.

Malicious Adware Can Also Damage Your Computer Files

In the worst cases, adware infiltrates computers in the worst of ways. It buries itself deep within the system making it impossible for less tech savvy people to get rid of. Even computer experts often have trouble erasing it from a computer system, and the result is having to completely wipe a computer clean and set it up all over again.

This means to those that don’t know, that the tech is going to completely format your hard drive and re-install all of the software applications if of course you have the installation disks.

Adware Is Nothing  More Than An Additional Cost For Computer Users

To combat all of these annoyances people need to have antispyware software running on their computer at all times. Not only does this slow the computer down, but the better antispyware software costs money.

While this is great for the antivirus industry, it’s just unfair for everyday computer users who simply want to run an affordable system.

How to Get Rid Of Malicious Adware

August 12, 2011/0 Comments/in Adware, Internet Safety /by admin

Adware can be a big nuisance but it can also be dangerous to both you and your computer.

In all too many cases adware comes with spyware built in to it and that spyware may gather harmless pieces of information but it could be taking some personal information from you as well. Either way, if you have Malware on your computer that is sending popup ads to your screen all of the time, you should definitely get rid of it.

The first thing to note here is that adware isn’t always a malicious piece of software on your computer.

Before you get rid of it you should make sure you know what you are getting rid of.

Sometimes it’s merely something that comes packaged with a free software application so as to earn income for the developer.

In these cases it is something you’ve likely agreed to having on your computer in exchange for the right to use the software.

Find out if you have the safe kind or the bad kind of adware:

When you download free software from the internet and install it take the time to read the license agreement that you are agreeing to before finally agreeing to install. In many cases the application is going to install adware on your computer and by accepting the agreement you are allowing that to be put there.

You Can Easily Remove Adware And Spyware Infections Using Spyware Doctor

If the adware only appears when that application is running and doesn’t popup at seemingly random moments, you probably have the so called good kind of advertising software on your computer. If you don’t like it, the only legal thing you can really do to avoid is it to get rid of the whole application or just don’t use it.

Run Windows’ system restore:

When you install thing onto a Windows based computer, the operating system automatically creates a restore point that you can fall back to later on. If the adware just appears one day on your screen then you can try running a system restore and it will hopefully take your computer back to the point before the advertising software got installed.

Run adware removal software:

If you have an antivirus application on your computer then it very likely means you have anti adware as well. Most of the time these things come packaged together. If not, check with your antivirus maker for an upgrade because there likely is one that give you the adware protection.

Run a scan on your computer and hopefully any of the malicious software, or malware, that’s there will be deleted or quarantined.

Delete any suspicious applications:

Check that your recently installed applications are the ones you actually want there. Sometimes software can find its way onto your computer and get installed without your full knowledge. A lesser evolved piece of adware can easily be gotten rid off by simply finding it in your program list and uninstalling it in the standard fashion.

Reformat your computers hard drive:

This is a last resort.

If you can’t get rid of the adware any other way, and you don’t want to spend the money on a professional fixing things for you—seeing as a lot of them will just reformat anyway—this may be your only option. Just make sure you’ve backed up all of the files you want to keep first.

For a complete all in one solution to stopping all forms of computer infections you need to check out AVG Internet Security.

Protecting Your Children From Internet Threats

August 11, 2011/1 Comment/in Internet Safety /by admin

Now that you have more than one computer in your home, and your children have to be on the internet for extended periods of time, you’ll need to do all you can to protect your family from internet threats.

One Of The Biggest Internet Threats Is Cyber Bullying

Cyber-bullying is becoming quite common among middle and high school students, and these threats can be very serious.

Here are a few ways that you can protect your child from internet threats, as well as some software that will prohibit unauthorized users from gaining access to your computer.

Social Networks Are Also Becoming Internet Threats To Your Children

Internet threats are very common on social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook and even Twitter. You may even place YouTube into this category due to the nature of some the videos that can be viewed.

Teenagers have accounts on these sites, which means that millions of people around the world have access to some of their personal information.

You’ll need to make sure that your teenager is not posting a number of personal pictures on the site; there are a number of young girls that place suggestive pictures on these social networking sites, and this makes it easier for internet predators and pedophiles to get in touch with your children and learn their whereabouts.

These sites also make it easy for your child’s fellow students to get in touch with them in order to make internet threats; some of the things that are said in the online messages that your child is receiving can be quite troubling, and many of these students will make good on these threats once your son or daughter arrives at school.

So How Can Your Prevent These  Internet Threats

In order to prevent internet threats, you may need to get your child’s school involved in keeping your child safe. If the online threats are made on school computers, your child’s principle will need to get involved in order to incorporate more internet safety features on campus computers.

If the internet threats happen off-campus, schools may be sued for violating the student’s right to free speech, so be sure to discuss the right methods for prevention with your school’s administration.

Your child also needs to know that they can come to you to let you know if they are receiving internet threats. You should have access to your child’s MySpace or Facebook account so that you can monitor the activity, and it may help to keep the computer your child uses in a common area of the house so that you can stay aware of the conversations he or she is having on the internet.

It is also a good idea to make sure that your child stays away from forums and chat rooms; these are some of the common places that people of all ages receive internet threats, and your child could be at risk if you are not keeping up with their internet activity.

The first step in combating internet threats is to install a good internet security program such as AVG Internet Security.

Should I Have Antivirus Software For A Mac Computer

February 10, 2011/1 Comment/in Computer Virus, Internet Safety /by admin

Viruses are circulating all over the internet and are traveling from one computer to the next via email, disk drives, flash drives and certain peripherals simply because many people still do not understand the importance of antivirus software..

The fact of the matter is, almost all of those viruses were associated with PCs, Windows based machines, and not any of the computers created by Apple.

In saying that , why would they be a need to have any antivirus software installed on a Mac? And even the software companies reflected that in the early days, you could not buy antivirus programs for a Mac anywhere.

For Years People Said Mac Did Not Need Antivirus Software

Well, for along time the team at Apple Mac had been blowing their own horns and yelling out loud and clear that their Mac computers were pretty much immune to viruses.

Whether or not this was ever said as bluntly as that is and will always be debated, but their commercials have made statements that at least imply that the virus threat to their system doesn’t exist.

Well that’s what I picked up from the TV commercials anyway, what about you?

Initially most Mac computer users boasted about their systems, stating their systems were perfectly safe whereas PCs are all under threat from many different viruses and spyware.

Early On It Was True, Mac Did Not Really Need Antivirus Software

From what we could find, since the release of OS X on the Macs back around turn of this century (2000), there have been an incredibly few number of viruses to ever hit the Mac systems. Few is the crucial word in that last sentence.

It means that there’s only a minimal threat. At the same time however, it also means very clearly that there is some kind of threat.

As soon as those initial threats were discovered, Apple made a big effort at patching up the vulnerabilities thereby making those viruses somewhat irrelevant to their system. They turned that around pretty quickly in fact and that in itself makes the need for an actual antivirus application somewhat redundant.

Things are changing very fast though. Initially only a few viruses, just like with the PC but then it grows as more and more people start  to use the Macs.

So will those threats become significant enough that antivirus software applications are necessary? The jury is still out, being the online community as the debates still rages to some degree. There are ongoing arguments still today as to how vulnerable Macs really are or ever were.

Many still claim today that they are inherently more secure from viruses an online threats than PCs but it’s not being to honest if you claim they are perfect.

Many people have argued though that the reason they were so invulnerable for so long was simply because not enough people owned them to make the attacks worthwhile. But now if you take a look around you will see different programs arriving on the shelves specially designed to protect the MAC.

Why Macs Need Antivirus Software Now!

In recent years though a lot has changed for the Apple Mac where it has started using the same type of processor chip that Windows based PCs use, and it has been explained that this alone can open them up for the same type of virus threats that Windows PCs have been open to for such a long time.

One of the more recent concerns is the way in which viruses and other threats such as spyware can exploit parts of a Mac system that aren’t directly related to the apparently secure operating system. It is a well known fact that Web browsers may have allowed varying threats to get onto your Macs system.

This has been happening a lot more in recent years and is only going to keep growing unless you take action to protect your Mac from these threats.

The bottom line is that the uncertainty of this online threat should be enough reason for you to put an antivirus software application on your Mac, even if you don’t think you need it.

You should also be aware of this, those other threats that aren’t necessarily viruses such as adware and spyware, Malware are starting to turn up in greater numbers.

After reading this post I hope you now understand how important it is to protect yourself and your Mac against those threats using antivirus software with built in protection from spyware as well.

Understanding Everything About Internet Safety

February 6, 2011/0 Comments/in Child Safety Online, Computer Security, Internet Safety /by admin

Whether you’ve just purchased a new computer for your family, looking for the right software for your business, or need to buy a PC so that your child can complete homework assignments, knowing about internet safety is very important.

There are many ways for unauthorized users to get access to your personal information if your computer is not protected, and you may also need to install special security tools that will keep your children safe when surfing the internet.

You Need To Teach Your Children About Internet Safety

When you’re teaching your children or coworkers about internet safety, you’ll need to be aware of internet safety laws.

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection act was put into place to help protect kids from internet predators online; this way, your child will not be able to give out his or her personal information online without your knowledge.

Software Will Help When You Talk About Internet Safety

There are also a number of protection tools that you can install on your computer so that your child will not be able to access certain sites without typing in a password. You’ll also need to teach your child about cyber-bullying, so that he or she will stay away from social networking sites that may make them victims of the bullying.

This trend is becoming very popular in middle schools and high schools, and could turn into a harassment situation for your child.

If You Already Know About Internet Safety Then Chat Rooms Should Be Blocked

Be sure to block chat rooms and forums from your child as well; these are some of the most common places for internet predators to visit, and they could get in touch with your child to find out your address and phone number.

You’ll also need to know more about internet safety if you are using software for your business; make sure that your employees are monitoring the rate at which financial information is being processed on the internet; this will help to keep your business’ account numbers out of the hands of people that are not authorized to have access to your account.

You can also have AVG Internet Security, PC Tools Internet Security, or Paretologic Anti-Virus Plus installed on your computer that will protect your appliance from viruses and spam that can slow the speed of your programs and damage your software.

If you notice any changes in your phone bill or electric bill after paying bills on the internet, you should purchase more advanced safety options for your computer.
